4x6's in both doors in the same location as the 944 (had to cut some
sheetmetal in the door to make the space), and also in the rear
quarters in the stock location. I used Blaupunkt Overdrive speakers
for the rears (they have a depth of 2.05 inches), they are the highest
end 4x6" speakers Blau makes. I used Blaupunkt graphite series
4x6's in the doors, they are the middle grade from Blau and they
have a mounting depth of 1.75"....which is the maximum depth for
the doors, and there are only 2 other brands of speakers I could find
that would fit the front without making some kind of speaker pod.
The BIG plus for the Blaupunkts is that they are the only 4x6's I
could find that would fit and came with grills. The stock grills are
awful for sound quality so I wanted to replace them with good mesh
ones. I also got a pair of Blaupunkt's "Pro Component" tweeters and
I mounted them in the dash.....Porsche purists cover your eyes....I
drilled holes in the dash so I could countersink the tweeters. Still to
come, I have to install the deck and CD changer and a pair of
Subwoofers and an amp. I am still trying to decide between MB
Quart 10" subs, or Blaupunkt 10" subs.
