When rebuilding my head for the 924, I could not find a valve spring compressor that would work with the deep seated 924 valve springs.  There isn't anything for a conventional compressor to grip to.  I finally found that "Schuck's" (same company as Kragen and Checker) rented the large "C" clamp type of valve spring compressors, and if you wanted to keep the tool, it was an extra $50 on top of the $10 rental.....so I looked at the tool, rented it for a day, then found it didn't quite work.....but there was hope, I had some scrap 3/8" mild steel laying around, so I cut it up and fashioned my own attachment (the tool comes with 2 different attachments, but neither of them would reach deep enough) and then tried it, and it worked perfectly.  Below are pictures of the tool, and the attachment I made.
